Maggie's Animal Parade 1st Birthday

 

On Saturday, we had a big party to celebrate Maggie's 1st Birthday! Of course, since this is the first time I have had a chance to throw a party for my child, and also since I have been on a party hiatus all these years of living in the shoe, I went a little crazy.

First, I claim minimal orginality in anything I did. I borrowed just about every idea from the internet, a blog or something I pinned on Pinterest. I am totally unashamed of this. I found it quite liberating, in fact.

The entire event was a huge labor of love. It took longer, and was more painful to put together than both a.) giving birth to Maggie and b.) her entire first year of life. In the spirit of blogging camaraderie, I am now going to share with you the full details of how I put it together, links and all.

A Party + Charity

In less than 2 days we will be drowning in paper flowers, cupcakes, and balloons for Maggie's 1st Birthday party! My mom has been here all week helping me out, she has a cramp in her back I am working her so hard! 

I can't begin to tell you how excited I am to decorate and have our friends and family over, and for a few more projects in the house to be finished. And I am so excited for Maggie to have a party! She is going to love having kids at the house and people to see, and she is going to go apeshit when she sees all the decorations!! I can hear her now..."ooo! ooo! ooo!" 

I also wanted to say "Thank you!" for the birthday wishes! I had a great week with Maggie and my Mom celebrating and decorating, John bought me a very lovely card and I can't think of anything better than that! Well, aside from a Mega Millions jackpot win. I seem to ask for that every year... Birthday Fairy needs to GET ON IT! :D 

On another, more somber note, even though I don't post regularly (so saying I am having a day of silence is kind of cheating), I think this is a really great thing the blogging community is doing, so I wanted to share. My cousin Bryan is in Tokyo, and I am pestering him daily on Facebook because we are so worried about everything that is going on. So, if you feel like you could help a bit, here is a good place to do so.

Happy Birthday to Me

I remember when I turned 30, saying and honestly feeling at the time, that 30 was the new 20. Well, that was 4 years ago, and today I feel like 34 is the new 45.

Usually I love to celebrate my birthday but this year I could really care less about mine since Maggie has her 1st birthday the day after...and we are planning quite the celebration! It's all I am doing and focusing on this week...planning her day, making the decorations, going waaaay over the top...I guess that is the gift I am giving myself, because it's something I love to do. And what else could I possible need besides her? She is the best birthday present I could have ever asked for. 

So even though I feel as old as the hills today, it's better than the alternative right? 

As long as I get to spend the day with my sweet family, working on some crafty stuff (maybe this would be a good day to finish Maggie's Christmas Book)...maybe having a Starbucks coffee and a cake pop, then I will have a very, very Happy Birthday indeed!!
